Best Practices
As a fully managed Computer Options customer here are some best practices to keep your network healthy...
Workstations
- Please log out of all workstations each evening.
- Please leave workstations (computers) on at all times. (Turning screens off is fine).
- Please reboot workstations at least once per week.
- Please ensure there is enough space around workstations to allow good air flow for cooling.
- PASSWORDS Please keep your passwords safe and private to prevent unauthorized access to the company's information.
- Do not store any data files on workstations. Always save your work to a server, so that the files will be backed up.
Servers
- Please do not use a server as a workstation.
- Please make sure the server is connected to a working battery backup (UPS).
- Where possible, servers should be in a physically secure (locked) location.
Backups
- Please rotate backup media (disks or tapes) according to schedule.
- Please take media that should be offsite, off site and store it securely.
- Do not leave backup media in cars, purses, briefcases, etc. any longer than absolutely necessary.
Equipment and Software purchases
- To help ensure that new software, computers, printers, cellphones, and related equipment will work well with the existing computer network at your location, please ask Computer Options for advice or recommendations before making a purchase.
